Tararuas: North-South Traverse; Shannon - Kaitoke

A 9 day, 69km journey with a total vertical height gain of ~ 6918m. The journey was via the Mangahao River Valley; Pukematawai; Nichols; Crawford; Aokaporangi; Maungahuka; Tararua Peaks; Kime; Alpha; Marchant Ridge; Kaitoke. The Tararua Forest Park is situated to the northwest of Wellington between approximately 41°00´S and 40°30´S along the northwest-aligned Tararua Range, which is composed almost entirely of uplifted and shattered greywacke, a non-fossiliferous sedimentary sandstone.
