Dave is one of our local heroes during COVID-19. Dave works in the Fire Service and during COVID-19 is an essential worker for community safety and well-being. 21 April 2020: Today is Graeme's 70th birthday. An import to Port in 1975, Graeme moved here all the way from North East Valley. Now retired, Graeme was a Dunedin postie (and staunch unionist) for over 30 years, including a stint as the Port postie in the late 70s, when he delivered telegrams on his Trident. Wow-what a dynamic duo this couple is and what amazing contributions they bring to our local community! Steve Walker is now an elected councilor on the Dunedin City Council. A super-strong advocate for the Port Chalmers cycleway, and to say the least has made a difference to the progress of this project. Steve also is chairman of the Dunedin Wild Life Hospital, while he works tirelessly on the council. We are so lucky to have Steve and Liana in our community. Many in Port know Yvonne as Mrs Good Grub, fondly named after the local cafe she once owned. Now retired and living with her beautiful daughter Desiree. Desiree is Tumuaki Whakaruruhau at Te Punaka Owheo at the Otago Polytechnic. She spends her spare time restoring her old villa. Almost 20 years in and she reckons she might be 3/4 done. I first met Aaron in the front of my van. Previously I had said hello, however, he was hitching into town, so we gave him a lift from Port Chalmers. Safely with our seatbelts on and our dog Molly we chatted our way into town. It was great to make contact. Aaron is a thoughtful and intelligent guy who genuinely cares about the Dunedin city he represents. I am proud he holds the responsibility as Mayor.
